LOOKING AT THE BASH PPV
By Joel C Croyle on 7/21/2007 2:00 PM
Before this year began I used to buy every pay per view but that is not the case. By the end if the year I may have bought five or six of them. So far I have purchased on PPV Backlash 07' and Wrestlemania 07' this calendar year. I can honestly say I was not all that impressed with either although each had one or two great matches (The MITB match at Maina, The Women's title match at Backlash). SO the question is do we as fans buy the Great American Bash or do wait for SummerSlam or another event to spend forty bucks on? According to WWE.com there are 8 matches on the card, that means every match should be worth Five dollars or more since the entire price tag is forty bucks...Let's look at what's on the card...
Carlito vs. Sandman - Singapore Cane On A Pole Match
This bout is more than likely going to be short and awkward. Though Carlito and Sandman as well as William Regal and Hacksaw Jim Duggan have done their best to make this feud entertain-able it really wasn't all that interesting from the get-go. The best portion so far has been the spitting contest Promo from Sandman and Carlito and that isn't worth five dollars. I don't think this match will be either, I'd say it might be worth a buck fifty. As for a winner - I give this one to Carlito with a back cracker on a cane move.
Candice vs. Melina - Women's Title
This match has a lot of potential. The two women have really been trying very hard in the ring and both have improved greatly over the past year. Their match at Vengeance was fair but not great. Look for this one to be better than their past efforts. Candice is a nice champion, she somehow has managed to sell a very plucked women's division....there isn't that many women on the roster to vie for the title and those that are in the running don't hold a candle to Trish or Lita who everyone still has etched in their minds as great champions. This match actually may be worth the five bucks on Candice's look alone. I say Candice retains.
MVP vs. Matt Hardy
This, I think will be the match of the night. These two have both been itching to really steel a show as of late. All their last few matches have been solid and entertaining. They have been playing up both the twist of fate and MVP's big boot. This match is going to end on a dime after a lot of back and fourth action. I truly feel they may be heading towards a champion vs. champion match at SummerSlam with both Hardy's involved against each other so I give this one with the twist of fate to Matt Hardy. The match will exceed the five bucks - closer to eight or nine.
Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga
This one has two very good workers in the ring at the same time with contrasting styles. It could be excellent or it could really go south. However, I really think they are gonna put on a show. Just for sibling rivalry matters alone I think Jeff will want to "out do" his brother in match quality and Umaga will hold up his end of the bargain - I think Jeff takes the win here and the match is worth about four dollars.
Dusty Rhodes vs. Randy Orton - bull-rope match
Dusty and Randy may have the most anticipated match of the night going in but I think it may fall on its face. I worry for Dusty's health honestly and I hope they don't try any really crazy rope spots. I would bet we may see a surprise from Randy's old man cowboy Bob. I also don't think this feud ends here, were gonna see a rematch. This match has a legend, a former world champ, and a rookie with potential. It gets Five dollars. Randy Wins and Dusty is left laying.
John Morrison vs. CM Punk
This match could steel the show as both men are wanting to show their brand is the best as well that they are the best young guys in the business. I think they truly have a shot at being the water cooler talk Monday morning. Morrison is just absolutely the best he's ever been and Punk is also doing great things. I say this one is worth four bucks. Morrison will block the GTS and roll up Punk. Morrison retains.
Kane vs. Batista vs. Khali
TRAIN WRECK. I don't want to see this match. I am amazed anyone does. Fans hate Khali, Love Batista and Admire Kane...It really is a toss up. I don't think creative knows what to do with the Smackdown title and so I say it stays on Khali until SummerSlam when maybe Rey Mysterio will take it back. Not even worth a dollar.
John Cena vs. Bobby Lashley
They've done a lot to rev us up for this match. Bobby is primed to be champ but Cena is ready to keep it. Both are big strong babyface guys. Bottom line - its a short but fair match with Cena retaining. Worth the five bucks I'd guess.
So in the end should we buy this PPV? According to my five dollar per match plan, No. It is only going to be worth 33.50 and that is solely because I gave MVP and Matt Hardy a Nine dollar bout. So in reality it's worth about 30.00. Save your money for SummerSlam where I believe we might see Booker T in a match as well as Kennedy, HHH, Rey Mysterio, Chavo Guerrero, Mark Henry, William Regal, Undertaker and Mickie James. None of who are on this card which is a shame.
Lastly, I'd just like to state I truly think Kane deserves to be champion for all the years he's given WWE, even if it is only to hold the title to SummerSlam - I just don't see it happening.
