DVD Review: Florida Rumble 2006
by Richard Trionfo

After the carnage of the Cage of Pain the previous night in Crystal River Cage of Pain DVD Review, it was time for Full Impact Pro Wrestling to bring its fans the annual tradition that is the Florida Rumble. Who would join Spanky (2004) and Jimmy Rave (2005) as winners of the Royal Rumble style battle royale. Which one of these men would face Roderick Strong at the end of the night to see if they could win the FIP Heavyweight Title? Would we see a moment as classic as CM Punk’s Bushwhacker Spot when he was eliminated as soon as he entered the ring? What is next for Black Market and the Heartbreak Express after the bloodiest match in FIP history? Would DP Associates be able to bring the FIP Heavyweight Title back into DP?

Here are the results from the show with your announcers Lenny Leonard, Jake Cerone, and Dave Prazak.

The members of the YRR; Chasyn Rance, Steve Madison, Kenny King, Sal Rinauro, and Daffney, come out and Chasyn Rance gets on the mic. He says that the YRR is more important than the Florida Rumble because they are the epitome of what everyone wants to be. Kenny King gets on the mic and he says that he is a little upset at the jealousy backstage. He mentions that FIP has put them in animalistic matches, matches for critters. He talks about the dog collar and table, ladders, and chairs match next month in Crystal River. He says that everyone is looking at the real FIP champion because Erick Stevens got in the way of Steve Madison winning the title. They are going to show how powerful the YRR is.

Daffney gets on the mic and she says that she is the smartest and most beautiful superstar in FIP so there is no need for any other women in the company. She calls Allison Danger poor, white trash and suggests that Allison needs to eat a sandwich.

Allison Danger comes out and she calls Daffney the ‘Protein Queen of America’. Then she challenges Daffney to a one-on-one match even though she knows that Daffney likes it in groups. Daffney accepts the challenge.

Before the Florida Rumble Match starts, Lenny and Jake mention that the rest of the matches on tonight’s show will be determined by the order of elimination during the match.

Match Number One: Hallowicked Wins the Florida Rumble

The order of entry for the Florida Rumble was as follows: 1) Davey Richards; 2) Delirious; 3) Austin Aries; 4) Seth Delay; 5) Gran Akuma; 6) Hallowicked; 7) Larry Sweeney; 8) Bryan Danielson; 9) Jerrelle Clark; 10) Colt Cabana; 11) Erick Stevens

Delirious knocks over Mr. Milo Beasley before the match. Aries and Delirious work over Richards until Seth Delay comes into the match. Delirious accidentally eliminates fellow DP Associates member Austin Aries and then he grabs the bell and rings it, causing Delirious to eliminate himself. Aries gets on the mic and he says that he has grown tired of DP, and he is sore and tired at the end of the day despite the fact that DP made him a lot of money. Larry Sweeney takes his time getting in the ring and he has some words with the fans at ringside before entering. Danielson enters the ring and he immediately eliminates Richards. Cabana enters the ring and he goes after Sweeney and Danielson. Cabana eliminates Danielson with a bionic elbow.

The order of elimination was as follows: 1) Austin Aries; 2) Delirious; 3) Davey Richards; 4) Gran Akuma; 5) Seth Delay; 6) Jerrelle Clark; 7) Bryan Danielson; 8) Erick Stevens; 9) Colt Cabana; 10) Larry Sweeney

After the match, Roderick Strong comes out and he gets on the mic. He congratulates Hallowicked for getting into the worst ass whipping of his lifetime. He also thanks the fans of Inverness for coming to the show.

Davey Richards comes out and he says that since Roderick won the title, Strong has been ducking him. He wants to know when he will get the title match. Strong tells Richards that he will get his title match this Friday night in Hartford. Richards gets on the mic and he says that he used to call Strong a friend, but he has no respect for him any more. Strong and Richards fight and the locker room separates both men.

Match Number Two: Jerrelle Clark versus Seth Delay goes to a No Contest
Just as the match is about to get going between Seth and Jerrelle after neither man is able to gain an advantage, the YRR attack Delay and Clark and they are thrown out of the ring.

Daffney announces that she is ready for Allison Danger.

Match Number Three: Daffney defeats Allison Danger
The members of the YRR surround Allison as the match begins and Daffney gets the early advantage. Allison fights back and when it appears that she has the match under control, Sal Rinauro and Chasyn Rance trip Danger and that allows Daffney to get the three count with a rollup.

After the match, Allison attacks Daffney, but the members of the YRR pull Allison off Daffney. The members of the YRR hold Allison for Daffney to slap. Black Market come out and the YRR leave the ring.

Dave Prazak comes out and it is good to see Black Market in the ring because it was a hell of a war that they had with the Heartbreak Express. He says that Black Market are two of the toughest who are hungry for some competition. Dave says that he has a tag team of two men from Japan. One is a rising star and the other is a legend. Prazak brings out Shingo and Osamu Nishimura.

Match Number Four: Osamu Nishimura and Shingo defeat Black Market
Murphy and Machete are able to get the early advantage in this match and they work on Shingo’s arm. Their advantage continues until Mr. Milo Beasley trips Machete. This allows Nishimura to work over Machete on the floor while the referee keeps Murphy in his corner. Nishimura and Shingo work on Machete’s leg until Murphy is able to be tagged in. Murphy sees the members of the YRR watching the match, and that allows Nishimura to get the three count with a backslide.

Larry Sweeney comes out to address the crowd and he brings out the Heartbreak Express. Sean Davis thanks Sweeney for inviting them out because Sweeney is the only person who is man enough to hang out with them. Last night they were in the most barbaric match and they are covered in cuts and scars. They were ripped off last night by the officials so there will be no Heartbreak Express match tonight. They introduce the fans to not just the most beautiful woman to set foot in Inverness, but the toughest; and Lacey comes out.

Match Number Five: Larry Sweeney (with the Heartbreak Express and Lacey) defeats Colt Cabana
Sweeney starts off the match trying to stay away from Cabana, but Cabana tries to get into Sweeney’s head. Cabana works on Sweeney’s leg and while trying to work the leg, gets a little too close to Sweeney’s groin area for Sweeney’s liking. Sweeney puts Cabana in a nerve hold, but Cabana escapes the hold by tickling Sweeney. The Heartbreak Express and Lacey interfere in the match to let Sweeney get the advantage over Cabana. Cabana fights back and he appears to have things under control, but the interference from the Heartbreak Express and Lacey leads to Sweeney hitting the Shreveport Smash for the three count.

Match Number Six: Delirious defeats Austin Aries
Aries gets the early advantage over his former DP Associates partner, but Delirious goes outside to regroup. Delirious hugs Prazak on the floor, but Prazak does not appear to be too happy about the hug so Delirious hugs Mr. Beasley. Aries sees this and he hits a suicide dive onto Delirious and Mr. Beasley. Delirious gains control of the match while they fight on the floor and then when they return to the ring. Aries appears to have things under control as he goes up top, but Prazak knocks Aries off the top rope while Delirious is with the referee. Delirious puts Aries in the Cobra Stretch and Aries taps despite having his foot on the rope but Prazak pushes it off and the referee did not see it.

Match Number Seven: Davey Richards defeats Gran Akuma
Richards has the early advantage as he works on Akuma’s arm. Richards tries for a suplex, but Akuma gets out of the hold with a knee to Richards’s head. Akuma connects with a series of stiff kicks to Richards. Akuma goes up top, but Richards stops him with a forearm. Richards hits a DDT and then he makes Akuma tap out to 14:59.

Match Number Eight: Erick Stevens defeats Bryan Danielson
Stevens is able to counter Danielson’s offense at the start of the match and Danielson goes outside to discuss strategy with Prazak. Stevens is able to maintain control of the match. Danielson sends Stevens out of the ring and Mr. Beasley puts Stevens in his wheelchair and Mr. Beasley hits a somersault senton from the apron while the referee checks on Danielson’s eye. The action returns to the ring and Stevens is able to get back into the match by kicking the rope when Danielson is trying to get back into the ring. Danielson tries for a diving head butt from the top turnbuckle and that allows Stevens to take over in the match. Stevens goes up top, but Prazak grabs Stevens’s leg so that allows Danielson to hit a press slam. Danielson and Stevens with a series of reversals after a sunset flip by Danielson. Prazak gets on the apron to distract Stevens and the referee. Mr. Beasley gives Danielson a foreign object and he hits Prazak when Stevens moves out of the way. Stevens hits a Doctor Bomb for the three count.

After the match, the YRR come out and they attack Stevens and Daffney kicks Stevens in the lower abdominal region.

Steve Madison gets on the mic and he says that he has carried Erick Stevens for a long time. He is looking forward to carrying Erick Stevens around in a dog collar next month. Before the dog collar match, Erick Stevens will face Brent Albright next month in Inverness.

Black Market, Jerrelle Clark, Seth Delay, and Allison Danger come to the ring to help Stevens. Machete gets on the mic and he says that he has more fight left so he suggests that after Roderick Strong defends the FIP Heavyweight Title, they have a non-sanctioned match with the YRR.

Match Number Nine: Roderick Strong defeats Hallowicked to retain the FIP Heavyweight Title
Strong takes control in the early parts of the match and when Hallowicked tries for a slingshot move and Strong hits a back breaker. Strong tries for a suplex, but Hallowicked counters with a neck breaker. Strong tries for a superplex, but he is pushed off the top turnbuckle and Hallowicked hits a senton for a two count. Strong is able to recover and he hits a German suplex that sends Hallowicked into the turnbuckles. Strong hits the gutbuster from the fireman’s carry position followed by the Gibson Driver for the three count.

After the match, the YRR come out and Sal Rinauro wishes everyone a goodnight and says that the fans would have loved to see the altercation but they just finished a photo shoot for the 2007 calendar and their attorney contacted them about this non-sanctioned fight.

Match Number Ten: YRR (Sal Rinauro, Steve Madison, Chasyn Rance, and Kenny King [with Daffney]) defeat Black Market (Joey Machete and Shawn Murphy [with Allison Danger]), Jerrelle Clark, and Seth Delay in a Non-sanctioned match
Jerrelle Clark, Black Market, Seth Delay, and Allison Danger come out and they fight into the ring with the YRR. Sal Rinauro is alone in the ring with Black Market, Delay, and Clark and Murphy press slams Rinauro onto the rest of the YRR on the floor. Delay with a dive to the floor followed by a somersault plancha from Clark. Daffney tries to attack Murphy from behind, but Allison Danger takes care of Daffney and they fight to the back. The YRR work over Delay, but Murphy is able to tag in and he takes care of the members of the YRR. All eight men get in the ring, but Madison throws powder in Machete’s face, and while Murphy and Delay are outside the ring, Clark falls victim to a spike piledriver for the three count.

After the match, Machete gets on the mic and he asks if they want a fight because they have messed with the wrong people. He challenges the YRR to a match when they return to Inverness on January 12th. He says that someone will be permanently maimed. He also tells Steve Madison to enjoy his career because it will be over on January 12th.

Florida Rumble 2006 Thoughts:

This DVD runs approximately two hours and forty minutes.

The sound during the promos was a little lower than in some of the other buildings that FIP runs in. For some reason the sound just seems a little off on the DVDs when they run in Inverness. Maybe it has to do with the crowd size because it is a larger building but the crowds are not as large as Crystal River.

I like the way that the building looks on the hard camera shots and the close up shots in this building. When they showed wide shots from the ringside cameras, there was too much empty space in the building. The lighting was a little darker from the hard camera shots. If they run Inverness again, I would hope that they would use their new lights that were debuted in Arcadia. During the Black Market match against Shingo and Nishimura, it was hard to see the members of the YRR on the stage.

It is interesting to see the way that the YRR has evolved because during this show they were dressed a lot more casually than they currently dress.

I thought Dave and Lenny’s comments about Austin Aries’s decision to leave DP Associates were hilarious. I expect that from Dave, but Lenny was matching Dave double entendre for double entendre. Then Lenny threw in a Jimmy Bower comment before the Daffney/Danger match began. Lenny was on fire during this DVD. Then there was his comment about Lacey’s outfit and compared it to a shrinky dink.

I like the way that they have started to add more commentators for the DVDs with Dave Prazak’s involvements during the matches so there is some back and forth instead of one guy doing commentary. While Lenny is more than capable of doing the commentary by himself, he works well with Jake Cerone.

I was a little disappointed with the Florida Rumble match itself because there were only eleven people in the match. In the first year there were nineteen participants. Last year’s Florida Rumble included fewer participants than the first year, but more than this year’s.

When it was announced that Colt Cabana was going to wrestle Larry Sweeney, I was really looking forward to that match, and I was not disappointed. Cabana and Sweeney have similar styles in the ring and both are able to have a solid wrestling match while incorporating comedy and other tomfoolery in the ring. I don’t know if they had wrestled before this match, but it felt like this was not the first time they met.

When this match happened, I was a bit surprised that Erick Stevens defeated Bryan Danielson, but when you consider what Erick has done in 2007, this was the first step for Erick to take it to the next level both in FIP and with his debut in Ring of Honor.

With two strong heel stables, it allows for some good potential feuds. I like how Black Market has joined with Jerrelle Clark and Seth Delay to take on the YRR. With Allison Danger working with Black Market, it opens up the possibility for a ten person match in the future if they want. It also allows for a larger variety of matches since you have an established tag team in Black Market so they can have as many as four potential matches on a show involving these ten people on a show.
