August 30th - September 4th, 2007
Introduction:
I was very shocked to find out about all the scandals and such WWE is dealing with this week. I would also like to state that I think it has been handled in the best way possible. I thank all my readers for continuing to support not only wrestling through these times but this site especially. Obviously with all the suspensions and roster issues the tag division, just like any other division, will be affected. It is going to make for some interesting shows in the next few weeks, and that can only be a good thing. And now I bring you my regular look at the tag divisions of TNA and WWE. I would like to say that "Impact!" was a shocker this week in that almost every angle and match had something to do with the tag team division, and I really soaked in the beauty of that.
Deuce and Domino
Though they lost the tag titles, they did an amazing job in supporting the angle that was important; M.V.P. vs. Matt Hardy. It was sad to see D and D have to do the job but they did it brilliantly and I definitely see them continuing on as the top Smackdown heel team of WWE. Thumbs Up this week.
Jesse and Festus
Well, this time we got a promo on how well the brothers Dalton did in school and apparently Festus is a genius. Since that's the case, maybe Festus should start writing their own promos and deciding their creative future, preferably beginning with having a match because creative is dropping the ball with this duo. Thumbs down.
Matt Hardy and M.V.P
If M.V.P was a face or Hardy was a heel and these two could at all coexist then there wouldn't be a team on any roster that'd beat them. But remember folks, this odd couple pairing isn't about the tag titles which they now hold, but about the US strap that is slipping from the waist of one Mr. Porter onto one Mr. Hardy. Thumbs up for the duo continuing their excellent feud as well as becoming the new smackdown world tag team champions.
Sting and Kurt Angle
I am very happy to be able to finally have a section about the TNA tag champs. In the past few weeks it has been hard to write about the division since TNA's title holder didn't have a partner. Sting won a great four way singles bout to become the champion and it wouldn't surprise me if he did what he needed to to help Angle keep the straps at the next PPV. Next week will be a great match when they face Abyss and Lethal. Thumbs up.
Team 3D
They took out their biggest competition. It is what they have always done and will continue to do. They put Steiner through a table, a feat they are known for. For them it was a fantastic week. Thumbs up.
The Steiners
Rick Steiner is injured and now Team 3D put Scott in the hospital after jumping Scotty before a match he was supposed to have with the Motorcity Machineguns. After a chair shot to the neck and a table cruncher I have to wonder if we've seen the last of the Michigan wrestling phenomenon. Thumbs down
Team Pac Man
Again with the spray-paint. This angle is so old and out of date. I truly hope Angle and Sting put these two out of commission. Hopefully Pac Man will go away from TNAS once this angle is finished and we can have Killing's back in the world title hunt picture. They've done nothing to help the tag division. Thumbs way down.
Motorcity Machineguns
They put out an open challenge which was accepted by VKM and they lost. Rule #1 in wrestling. Don't throw an open challenge unless you know you are unbeatable at the time. Thumbs down.
VKM
They had a nice showing this week against the machine guns and came out on top. So then they decide to show up their beaten opponents and put out an open challenge of their own. Rule #2 in wrestling.Don't call out an open challenge if you know the entire division's roster is there and they all want your head. Thumbs in the middle.
XXX/LAX/Young and Sharkboy
They put on a fantastic brawl to end TNA Impact this week. Everyone in the entire division worked hard and tag team wrestling once again became mega-important in the TNA world. Thumbs way up to the entire tag roster!
Cryme Tyme
They lost on the weekend in a non televised event and then were released from the WWE. This is an unfortunate turn of events as I thought their feud with Cade and Murdoch was becoming one of the greatest of the year.
Cade and Murdoch
They retained the titles against Cryme Tyme in a non-televised match. A very short but good match so I understand. They did some commentary and began a very similar road as to the one they were on with the Hardys during a number one contender's match. Thumbs in the middle
Kendrick and London
They Beat WGTT to get a shot presumably at Unforgiven against Cade and Murdoch for the titles. Great week for them, great match indeed. Thumbs up!
The Highlanders At a house show over the weekend Rory and Robbie tied it up with David Taylor and Paul Birchall and won. I need to see them on TV again. Thumbs in the middle.
David Taylor and Paul Burchill.
These two haven't been on television yet but it seems they are gearing up to be on the main roster quite soon. Burchill has been awesome in his role at OVW for some time and though Taylor lacks personality he makes up for it in his Regal/Finlay type mat wrestling. Keep an eye out for these two. Thumbs in the middle till they get on TV.
WGTT
Shelton beat Super Crazy in a singles match this past weekend at a house show and Charlie Haas was no where to be found. Because of what happened this past week in WWE it is possible that Haas has been suspended, as we have no list to confirm that, one can only assume, and we all know what that does. If it is the case, it is really unfortunate timing because WGTT had a tremendous outing last week while getting their "Heel Heat" back and now it will all be for not. On top of that they lost the number one contender's match. Thumbs down for the team but maybe a soon to be thumbs up for Shelton as he may be a contender for the IC strap once again.
In Closing
This week was especially good on the part of TNA and WWE also had quality angles and tag match ups. It was one of the better weeks in a long time overall. ECW had some good stuff and the mixed tag with James/Rhodes vs. Davari/Hall was really good. This week the TAG TEAM OF THE WEEK AWARD goes to THE ENTIRE TNA TAG DIVISION for the rejuvenation of tag team wrestling. Special "props" goes to Team 3D as well for the dismantling of the Steiner brothers. It was a heck of a week both inside and outside wrestling and I can't wait for more. Until next time folks.
