Oct 4th – October 10th, 2007
Introduction:
Well, it’s that time of week again tag fans and what a week of wrestling it was. It’s too bad that No Mercy’s promos didn’t let us know about the six man tag match involving Jeff Hardy, London, Kendrick, Cade, Murdoch and Kennedy because it was a solid PPV bout and might have given WWE a bit more revenue in the tank. I must say No Mercy in my opinion was the best PPV so far this year and Orton/HHH in the last man standing match should be up for match of the year. I was surprised to read so many negative reviews about it because I really thought the WWE finally gave us something that was worth the money and had intriguing story lines and matches. Some of you may not have liked it because there was no Y2J but WWE has never promised that to happen so I can’t see the disappointment.
Next issue…Always in tag team weekly I give an award for the best tag team of the week. To me that award goes to who made the biggest impact or strongest performance. Who elevated their tag team from that thumbs down to a thumbs up. I’ve decided to add a second award and that is for tag team match of the week since sometimes the regular tag teams we cover don’t give the best match. A few weeks ago the best tag match of the week would have been between four divas on that particular week but I couldn’t say much about it since they weren’t a regular tag team. That has now been taken care of and you can look at the bottom of this article to see who wins that award this week, though it really shouldn’t be a surprise.
RAW
Cade and Murdoch
Cade and Murdoch had a very good 6-man match at No Mercy, too bad it was unannounced. They definitely seem to be the team to beat, it also seems more than one tag team in WWE is willing to give them a go for their titles. Thumbs in the middle.
Kendrick and London
They had a good showing at No Mercy. These two are absolutely fluid and Hardy only added to that. Then on Raw they seemed to have a little trouble keeping the pace of the match to their style, but overall still an excellent bout. Thumbs in the middle.
The Highlanders
Hey, look at that! The Highlanders are bonafide number one contenders now for the tag titles. I still them as Butch and Luke 2007, but whatever. Their match on Raw against L and K was fair. Thumbs up.
Smackdown
Deuce and Domino
They lost again to MVP and Hardy and now look to be out of the title hunt for the time being while Taker and Kane get their shot. Thumbs down
Matt Hardy and M.V.P
They beat D and D and found out they got Taker and Kane soon on Smackdown. Though I thought it was gross, the pizza contest was funny too. Thumbs up.
Jesse and Festus
I really like the Festus is a gentle giant and then a wrecking machine when the bell rings. Their debut was against two jobbers on Smackdown, but it was a really good showing. Thumbs way, way up for the country boys!
TNA
AJ Styles/Tomko/Cage
Tomko went to Japan and Styles got pulled aside by Cage. They were part of a great match in the TNA main event on Thursday but I didn’t see them carrying the same fever the other 3 teams did. Whatever, thumbs down.
Team Pac Man
They kept their tag titles. Now, even though I really hate the fact that Jones is in a wrestling ring, I have to say this; the stuff with the football and the outsmarting of Bubba Ray was absolutely hilarious. Maybe Pac should be doing stand-up or Night time “Leno style†comedy shows instead of wrestling. I am actually giving them a thumbs up this week because they were worth watching.
Team 3D
They came out and did their thing as heel’s, bullying Cornett into giving them a title match. However, in the match they were actually outsmarted several times by Jones from Team Pac Man. To me, that doesn’t say much for the Dudley’s. On top of that VKM cost them the match also making fools of them. Thumbs down.
The Steiners
They ran off Team 3D and looked menacing. I wanted more from this veteran team. Thumbs in the middle for at least being back in the Impact Zone.
VKM
They didn’t do much on the show, but they made sure the title didn’t change hands. Thumbs up.
Shark Boy and Dutt
On Impact they were basically used as fodder for team 3D. The thing is though, that these guys are or should be gaining a ton of experience by being the pawns in top tier team’s angles. They did their job well. Thumbs up.
LAX
Man, these guys are dangerous. I will say it again DANGEROUS. I really feel that when I watch LAX in the ring they just don’t give a care about who they are in with, they don’t protect them or themselves. However, they were fantastic and did some really hot spots in the 8 man match. Thumbs in the middle
Samoa Joe/Junior Fatu
These two are a great team and their strength is just unbelievable. Unfortunately I really don’t see this lasting long as a team and honestly I hope it doesn’t. Joe deserves to be in the world title picture and should be doing so. Fatu is coming back to television after being gone a while and he is showing he still has the goods. What would be best is if TNA got an “Intercontinental†title of sorts and put it on him as I don’t see him being in the X division or the Knockouts division. Thumbs in the middle
Triple X
Awesome, 8 man tag was off the chain and these guys were a big part of it. Enough said. Thumbs up.
In Closing
This week was a really good week of wrestling action, in general. TNA especially had good stuff happening in the tag division and WWE wasn’t too far behind them. I think we may be starting to see an up swing beginning in the world of tag teams.
The Tag team of the Week Award this week goes to Jesse and Festus. Their debut was phenomenal.
The Best Match of the Week Award goes to the eight man tag match that closed Impact featuring Triple X, Joe/Fatu, Cage/Styles, and LAX.
