BY THE NUMBERS - TNA BOUND FOR GLORY 2007

By Joel Croyle on 10/13/2007 3:41 PM

How this works:

Each Bound for Glory match will be rated in four different categories. Each category will be worth a total of 1 point (1.00) with the exception of the "Special" category which will be worth 2 (2.00). Each match will be worth five point’s total. If at the end of the card it doesn’t add up between 25 and 30 points or more, then it isn’t worth it for you to order the PPV. At the bottom of this article you can read what each category represents.

Fight For The Right Match

Wrestling: .75

Charisma: .50

Angle Depth: .50

Special: 1.50

Comments: This is an interesting match and it leads to the winner being number one contender to the title. I honestly don’t know who will win but I think it is going to be a ton of fun while it lasts. Just don’t look for it to last to long!

Total Points: 3.25/5

Knockouts Gauntlet Match (Knockout Championship)

Wrestling: .75

Charisma: 1.00

Angle Depth: 1.00

Special: 1.00

Comments: This is going to be a very fun and exciting match as we basically have five veteran TNA female’s going against TNA newcomers. It is all for the newest prize in Sports entertainment… a female title. I think either Kong or Roxxy Laveaux will win the title and don’t be surprised to see Gail Kim and Ms. Jackie in there at the end. I really hope at some point in the match we get to see Kong vs. Jackie one on one because it will be a spot fest.

Total Points: 3.75/5

The Steiner Brothers vs. Team 3D (Tables Match)

Wrestling: 1.00

Charisma: 1.00

Angle Depth: .75

Special: 1.75

Comments: It is Team 3D’s specialty but I don’t think they’ll be winning this one in the end. 3D has played their part well as the evil heels and they have it coming to them. People want to see Bubba and Devon get it taken to them by Rick and Scott Steiner. I think this match has the possibility of definitely being the best tag match on the night with maybe the exception of the Ultimate X match.

Total Points: 4.50/5

Samoa Joe vs. Christian Cage (Matt Morgan; Special Referee)

Wrestling: 1.00

Charisma: 1.00

Angle Depth: 1.00

Special: 1.00

Comments: This will be the best match of the night in the way of technical wrestling ability. To me, it is also the best angle going in. It only gets 1 point in special because it is something we’ve seen already and it has no real interest to it. I think Morgan will turn on Joe and Christian will win (3-0 in his mind I’m sure).

Total Points: 4.00/5

Triple X vs. LAX (Ultimate x Match)

Wrestling: .75

Charisma: .25

Angle Depth: .50

Special: 2.00

Comments: Lately the participants of this match don’t interest me as characters and even in the ring they’ve been a bit too hit or miss for my taste. I worry also that LAX is not going to protect the other team and this could be a real disaster waiting to happen. On the other hand we are going to see some cool spots, guaranteed. LAX will win.

Total Points: 3.50/5

Team Pacman vs. Styles/Tomko (Tag Team Championship)

Wrestling: .05

Charisma: .80

Angle Depth: .25

Special: 1.00

Comments: Why such the low numbers? JONES IS NOT ALLOWED TO WRESTLE!!! I hate Team Pacman, and if you read my other column, tag team weekly, you’ll know why and it isn’t just because he sucks. Styles and Tomko will pin the former NFL player soon to be NFL player again Jones. I can’t wait for Styles to have a title around his waist.

Total Points: 2.10/5

Jay Lethal vs. Christopher Daniels (X Division Championship)

Wrestling: 1.00

Charisma: .50

Angle Depth: 0

Special: 1.00

Comments: Unfortunately this match to me has no steam going into TNA Bound For Glory at all, which is why for the first time in the history of this column I gave a ZERO in any category. On the bright side, this may be a fantastic match as two great performers are involved. Daniels wins.

Total Points: 2.50/5

Kurt Angle vs. Sting (TNA Championship)

Wrestling: 1.00

Charisma: 1.00

Angle Depth: .50

Special: 1.00

Comments: Look for Kevin Nash to cost someone the title and be the next guy on the scene to challenge for it next month. I must say I really don’t think Sting or Angle are going to be at their best here, and for the life of me I can’t tell you why I feel that way. I just have the nagging feeling like this thing is really going to explode in the wrong way. It’s not like Batista vs. Khali from last weekend, just like it won’t be as good as it should. Sting wins with Nash waiting for the title in the wings.

Total Points: 4.50/5

TOTAL CARD POINTS: 28.10 points out of a possible 40 points

The Verdict:

If you are a huge TNA fan this one was already a must see as it is one of their biggest events. If you aren’t, this is still a good wrestling PPV. There really isn’t a bad match on the card looking at the list. I think we will see a few surprises here and there. And if we go strictly by the numbers, it is a YES to ordering this PPV!

*****

Definitions of the Categories –

Charisma – This is how well the wrestlers involved in the match do outside the ring. Who are they? Are they a defined character? Do we as fans care for them? How are they on the mic?

Angle Depth – This takes into consideration how long an Angle has gone on, and is it stale. Is it something fresh and interesting?

Wrestling – This is purely about the competitors wrestling ability. How good are they? Can they really sell their move set? Will I be wowed by them?

Special – This category really takes into consideration everything else. For instance, is this a gimmick match, and just based on that alone do we as fans want to see it? Are we getting something unusual or spectacular? For instance, if we knew Ric Flair was going to retire at this PPV and it was going to be a submission match against HHH with Harley Race as H’s manager, the special category points would be huge. Bottom line is this category takes into affect a lot of what I say in the comments sections and gives it a numerical value.
