TNAlt #2 - Sunday, October 28
Second show leading to November's PPV (available Wednesday, November 14)
Location: Orlando, FL
Announce team: Jeremy Borash & Kevin Nash
Prior to the opening credits, a video package airs showing the events of last week. The theme of the video is 'Desire and Intensity', with the narrator's voiceover regularly dropping those two keywords in over the top of video footage of Kurt Angle's attack on Jay Lethal, Ron Killings hitting his finisher on Shark Boy and Samoa Joe beating Black Reign being shown. The narrator says "some want to make it to the top" as the Motor City Machine Guns are shown in the ring with Jim Cornette. The video package ends as we see Kurt Angle staring at Jay Lethal from the conclusion of last week's show as the narrator says, "Some will do anything to stay at the top."
Jeremy Borash and Kevin Nash welcome us to this week's show, informing us that tonight we'll hear from Kurt Angle, who hopefully will explain his actions from last week. As announced on last week's show, we'll also see both LAX and XXX in action, with Homicide taking on Elix Skipper, and Hernandez taking on Senshi. Eric Young takes on James Storm, and Kaz takes on Lance Hoyt, with all four men hoping to advance in the #1 Contender's tournament to face Sting at next month's PPV. Plus, AJ Styles and Tomko will make the first defence of their Tag Team Titles right here tonight!
Kurt Angle's music hits, and the former Olympic gold medallist makes his way to the ring. Jeremy Borash lets us know that earlier today, TNA management let it be known that following last week's vicious attack, Jay Lethal was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to be out of action for some time. Later in tonight's show, however, Borash will be speaking live to Miss Valerie for an update on Jay Lethal's condition.
Angle enters the ring. He says that for the past week, people have been asking him, "Why, Kurt?" He goes on, "People want to know why I attacked Jay Lethal. People want to know why I left him bloody and battered. People want to know what my state of mind is." Kevin Nash mentions on commentary that Angle's unpredictability and state of mind is always a concern for his opponents before Angle continues. He reminds us that last week, the entire locker room was put on 'Kurt Alert'. He says that 'Kurt Alert' means that he is out to prove that he is the best wrestler in professional wrestling today and that last week's attack on Jay Lethal was to help reinforce that message.
"When I quit WWE, I came here because of the amount of young, rising talent TNA had to offer me. There are a number of guys sat in the back that might be young, but are foolish enough to think they are better. These guys talk about their 'no limits' X Division, and that's all they do: talk. NOBODY in that locker room is better than Kurt Angle, and what I did to Jay Lethal last week just proves that these kids are all talk and no action. But me? I'm Kurt Angle, damnit. You want action? I'll give you action. I went to TNA management earlier today and demanded a match tonight against one of the so called 'stars of the X Division', so bring out a referee and let me destroy my opponent like I destroyed Jay Lethal last week."
As a referee makes his way to the ring, Jeremy Borash comments that Angle has snapped. Nash says Kurt makes a couple of valid points, but questions whether frightening a woman last week and laying out Jay Lethal as he did was the right way to go about things. With the referee in the ring, Angle again takes the mic and demands his opponent comes out. He does, and our first match is on the way!
Kurt Angle vs. Shark Boy
Jeremy Borash comments on Angle's opponent, noting that with all due respect to Shark Boy, he's coming off a bad loss to Ron Killings from last week's show and that he's now facing an intense Kurt Angle. Shark Boy attacks Angle with right hands, but he's soon on the defensive after Angle gives him a knee to the stomach. After a few right hands of his own and a clothesline, Angle hits the Olympic Slam and gets the quick pinfall. Winner at 1:32 - Kurt Angle
Post-match, Angle grabs a chair hits Shark Boy across the legs repeatedly with it. He locks in the ankle lock and keeps it locked in until referees have to pull him off Shark Boy as Borash notes that Angle could be trying to take out the entire X Division in the same way he put Jay Lethal on the shelf last week.
Backstage, Mike Tenay puts over how shocked he is by Kurt Angle's actions. He says he's joined by two of the rising young stars here in TNA, and along with Jim Cornette, the Motor City Machine Guns enter. Tenay asks for their comments on Kurt Angle's actions. Alex Shelley says that while its obvious that Kurt Angle is out to send a message, he and Chris Sabin are out to send their own message tonight. Jim Cornette says that Kurt Angle isn't the only one who can back up his words. Last week, Cornette says he told the world he was going to help this talented duo reach their goals and fulfil their dreams. Tonight, Raven and Havoc will find out that Sabin and Shelley are a tag team to be reckoned with.
The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Raven & Havoc
Both Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin make their way to the ring alongside with Jim Cornette. Both Borash and Nash put over both talent of this great young team who now have an opportunity to step up and take the spotlight, as well as talking about how they can make their dreams a reality under Cornette’s guidance. Borash notes that Cornette has a proven track record when it comes to working with the best, noting the success that the Midnight Express had with Cornette; while Nash points out that the Machine Guns have a long way to go to reach that level.
The match gets underway, with Shelley and Sabin isolating Havoc right from the opening bell. They hit a series of double-team moves - some simple, some more complicated, all impressive. Borash comments on the chemistry between Shelley and Sabin as they continue to dominate the match past the five minute mark.
Havoc managing to make the hot tag to Raven, and he clears house, hitting both Shelley and Sabin with a pair of right hands, then clotheslines, and a couple of backdrops for good measure. Sabin is the legal man, and Raven sets up a chair in the middle of the ring. He goes for his trademark drop toehold onto a chair on Sabin, but Alex Shelley jumps into the ring and kicks the chair out of the way. Raven then sets up Shelley for DDT, but Sabin nails Raven with a dropkick from the top rope before he can plant Shelley. The momentum of the dropkick sends Raven crashing into the turnbuckle where he is able to tag out to Havoc.
Havoc tries to mount a comeback, but, still worn down from the opening minutes of the match, he is quickly nailed with a double enzuigiri. Sabin makes the cover, and this one is history. Winners at 8:19 - The Motor City Machine Guns
Sting says some are asking him why he appears to have taken a back seat since winning the World Heavyweight Title. "Rest assured, that's not what I'm doing," he says. He says that he's proud to wear the most prestigious title in professional wrestling, and tonight will be again be assessing those involved in the #1 contender's tournament. Mike Tenay asks if he has a preference on who he defends his title against at next month's PPV, noting that once tonight's matches are out of way, he'll know which three people are in line for a title shot. Sting says that he has no preference, and that he treats all his opponents in the same way: "going to be beaten."
Jeremy Borash reminds us with Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley going to a time-limit draw on last week's show, one of the five participants remaining in the #1 contender's tourney will receive a bye to the final. The first of tonight's two first-round matches is up next.
Kaz vs. Lance Hoyt (w/Christy Hemme & Jimmy Rave) - #1 Contender's Tournament, First Round Match (20 minute time limit)
With ring entrances out of the way, both Hoyt and Kaz get into it from the opening bell with punches and forearms. They brawl into the corner, where the referee is unable to break them up. With the match verging on spiralling out of control, people's attention is drawn to TNA World Heavyweight Champion Sting, who is standing in the entrance way, scouting his potential competition. Borash asks what Sting is doing there as we head to commercial.
We return with Borash and Nash being joined by an obviously drunk James Storm. Storm says (well, slurs) that it doesn't matter who wins this match, since he'll be going all the way in the tournament and beating Sting for the title at next month's PPV. He says after he beats his opponent tonight (whose name, Eric Young, he forgets), he's heading to the bar and everybody is welcome to join him.
In the ring, Kaz and Hoyt are having a fairly basic but solid match, filled with power moves back and forth. Hoyt looks to hit the big running boot, only for Kaz to duck it. He hits Hoyt in the chest with a boot of his own and nails a big pump handle slam for the pinfall win. Winner at 11:01 - Kaz
Post match, Kaz is attacked by both Hoyt and Jimmy Rave, only for Sting to run down the ramp to make the save. With Sting and Kaz in the ring, Sting goes to shake Kaz's hand. He refuses the handshake, and instead motions that he wants the belt around his waist.
A video package showing last week's altercation between Ron Killings and Christian Cage airs before we return to ringside. Jeremy Borash notes that we'll hear from Killings next.
A video for next month's PPV airs.
Ron Killings makes his way to the ring. He says that last week, he wrestled his first important singles match for what seemed like a lifetime. He says that people in the back think he's a joke and isn't being taken seriously by this company. He reminds us that he's a former two-time champion in this company and that his goal is to get back to the top. He hits out at TNA for holding him back, but admits that he has to take some of the blame for losing his focus and "hanging around with so-called celebrities." He says that people are telling him he's crazy to be taking on Christian Cage in a ladder match (with Jeremy Borash mentioning that Killings is flying in for next month's PPV from Japan where he'll be wrestlers just hours before he faces Cage), but that doesn't bother him. "As the song goes, 'I may be crazy...but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for', and at next month's PPV, Christian Cage is going to find out first-hand that Ron 'The Truth' Killings is all business."
Backstage, Samoa Joe is shown sat in his locker room. He's in action...next!
Don West's 'Deal of the Day' video airs, plugging the latest TNA merchandise.
Samoa Joe vs. Disco Inferno
Jeremy Borash and Kevin Nash both note that Disco Inferno is no pushover, and just because he's not been seen in TNA for some time, that doesn't mean Samoa Joe will have an easy ride. Nash notes that Disco is a multiple time champion, winning three different titles while in WCW and puts him over as a former nWo Wolfpac member, making Disco appear to be a credible opponent for Joe.
Disco takes the match straight to Joe from the opening bell. He hits a series of forearms to Joe and follows it up with a Russian leg sweep which leads to an early near fall. Joe responds with a right hand before sending Disco into the ropes and hitting a back drop, which Disco lands awkwardly on his side from. Joe picks him up and sits Disco on the top rope, looking to set him up for a muscle buster. Disco thwarts his attempts and hits Joe hard across the back repeatedly before hitting him with an elbow drop from the second rope. Joe kicks out on two.
Disco plays up to the crowd as Nash mentions that Disco doesn't want to be cocky when he's facing somebody as tough as Joe. He eventually tries to lock in a standing figure four leglock, but Joe blocks it and is able to rise to his feet. He kicks Disco in the stomach and lifts him up for a Samoan drop. He picks Disco back up and nails him with the muscle buster before getting the pinfall win. Winner at 4:51 - Samoa Joe
Christian Cage, AJ Styles and Tomko are backstage with Mike Tenay. Cage says Killings is right about one thing - people do think he's a joke. He makes his excuses and leaves, but not before making similar comments to last week about AJ Styles and Tomko having to defend against "two wrestlers rather than the two jokes you beat for those belts." An angry Styles tries to follow Cage, only for Tomko to restrain him and tell him to focus on their match, which is next.
Tag Team Title Match: AJ Styles & Tomko (C) vs. Voodoo Kin Mafia (w/Roxxi Laveaux)
After both teams make their entrances, the match gets underway with BG James and AJ Styles in the ring. Jeremy Borash puts over how Styles and Tomko have been working well together as a team and that their teamwork was a vital factor in them winning tag team gold. James works over Styles' arm before tagging out to Kip James. He continues to work over the arm of AJ before a mistake allows Styles to hit a dropkick to the face and tag out to Tomko.
Tomko dominates Kip with a powerslam and a series of clotheslines, but as he goes to hit a third clothesline, the match is interrupted by The Steiner Brothers, who hit the ring. Rick pulls BG James off the ring apron, while Scott reaching under the bottom to pull Tomko out of the ring by his legs, leading to the referee calling for the bell. Winner at 3:48 - No Contest
Roxxi Laveaux runs for cover at ringside as both members of VKM are just destroyed by The Steiners. VKM manage to eventually escape to the back, leaving The Steiners in the ring. With Styles and Tomko looking on from the aisle, Scott Steiner grabs a mic.
"Last week, Jim Cornette came out here and told of how his new tag team, The Motor City Machine Guns, were going to bring tag team wrestling back to the top of professional wrestling. Me and my brother heard what Cornette had to say, and he's right, tag team wrestling IS going to return to the top of this industry."
After being confused as to why The Steiners would attack VKM, the live crowd are slowly beginning to get behind Scott as he continues:
"For years, we've dominated and destroyed any competition that was put in front of us. Whether it was here in TNA, or elsewhere, around the world, everybody knows that The Steiners are Number One. AJ Styles and Tomko, WE know we're the best, these fans know we're the best, and VKM know that we're the best but to make it all official, we need proof that we're the best, and the only way we can prove it, is to wear those tag team titles.
The Steiners' music plays as Styles and Tomko look on from the entrance way, with Tomko shouting down towards the ring, implying that they can have their match.
HOUR TWO
As The Steiners are making their way from the ring, the camera reveals that Roxxi Laveaux is still at ringside after hiding in the crowd as The Steiners attacked VKM moments ago. She hops the guardrail and starts to make her to the back. As she walks up the ramp, Awesome Kong's music hits, and an angry looking Kong quickly catches Roxxi as she tries to escape back into the crowd.
Kong throws Roxxi into the ring and hits her with a huge powerbomb in the centre of the ring before climbing to the top rope and hitting her with a splash. Officials and paramedics run to the ring to attend to Roxxi as Kong motions to the camera that she wants the Knockout title around her waist.
Jeremy Borash puts over how much of a monster Awesome Kong is and that if she gets her wish, she'll be challenging Gail Kim for the TNA Knockout Title at next month's PPV. He notes that while the match has not been announced, a decision will be made on next week's show. Borash and Nash recap the events of the first hour before telling us that the second hour promises to be just as action packed, starting with the first of two LAX vs. XXX singles matches.
Hernandez vs. Senshi
Both men have their respectively tag team partners at ringside as we get underway with Hernandez and Senshi staring at each other in the ring. Kevin Nash mentions the difference in size between the two as Hernandez smirks and almost jokes to the crowd about the size of him compared to his opponent. Hernandez shoves Senshi away, with Senshi responding with a couple of kicks to the leg. Hernandez doesn't care much for that, and charges at Senshi, who ducks under a lariat attempt and hits a springboard dropkick to send the big man to the outside. Jeremy Borash compares the match to a David vs. Goliath contest as we cut to commercial.
We return with both men back in the ring, with Senshi trying to wear down Hernandez. As promised at the top of the show, Jeremy Borash is joined on the line by Miss Valerie, who briefly speaks to Borash as the match is in progress. Borash asks how Jay Lethal is doing, to which Miss Valerie says doctors have not told him when he will be able to wrestle again. She said that she feared for her safety last week when Kurt Angle pushed her and attacked Lethal. Borash asks if she is with Lethal as we speak, to which she responds, "Jay's told me to just stay indoors," both revealing that Lethal hopes to be able to speak on next week's show.
The match continues, with Senshi taking it to Hernandez with stiff kicks to the legs and body, but despite the barrage of punishment, Hernandez is unable to be taken off his feet, and occasionally is able to fight right back with just one big clothesline or forearm, which is enough to completely turn the tide in Hernandez's favour with devastating effect. Eventually, Senshi’s barrage of kicks take Hernandez off his feet, but this just enrages the big man who snaps, destroying Senshi with big power moves. He sets Senshi up for a powerbomb, only for Elix Skipper to run into the ring and attack Hernandez. Homicide runs into the ring to make the save, leading to a four-way brawl as the match gets thrown out. Winner at 11:01 - No Contest.
Hernandez and Senshi are sent to the back by security and since they’re already in the ring, its announced that we're underway with:
Homicide vs. Elix Skipper
Both men continue brawling at a fast pace as if it was a continuation of the previous match, briefly brawling into the crowd before returning to the ring where the referee calls for the bell to get this one underway. They settle down quickly into the big moves, and keeping the intensity at 100% as both Borash and Nash put over that the six sided ring is still not big enough to contain this feud and that the fact they were brawling in the crowd should come as no surprise.
Indeed, the match heads back out into the crowd, where a few fans (planted of course) get caught up in the action and are caught by stray elbows as they get too close to the action. The referee calls for medics and the fans are taken out on a stretcher.
Eventually, Homicide and Skipper make their way back to the ring after the referee eventually manages to maintain a little control. Tired and worn out from an intense battle, both men attempt to go for their big moves right away. Homicide is able to counter the Play of the Day, and hits a frogsplash for a two count. He follows it up by attempting a Cop Killa, but Skipper slips out the back and gets the O’Connor roll, holding the ropes for leverage and getting the cheap pinfall victory. Winner at 8:49 - Elix Skipper
Post-match, an angry Homicide heads towards Borash and Nash at the announce table and starts throwing chairs into the ring. Skipper backs off and heads away from the ring, wearing an expression that suggests he might have cheated for the win, but now he realizes what a mistake that was as Homicide is now out for blood.
Eric Young vs. James Storm - #1 Contender's Tournament, First Round Match (20 minute time limit)
Eric Young makes his entrance first to a good reaction from the live crowd. James Storm's music plays, but Storm is nowhere to be seen. After he is introduced for a second time, Storm eventually makes his way out from backstage, staggering through the entrance way and stumbling down the aisle. He climbs into the ring, tripping over the bottom rope as he does so. The referee calls for the bell, and Storm immediately starts swinging wild punches into thin air, with none of them connecting anywhere near Young, who has no idea what to make of Storm's actions.
After swinging and missing with several more punches, Young capitalises on the situation, rolling up Storm and getting a very easy pinfall win. Winner at 0:58 - Eric Young
After the match, Borash and Nash discuss what they've just witnessed, with Borash hammering the point that there are plenty of people in TNA who would have done anything to have been in Storm's position and have a spot in the #1 contender's tournament. They start to argue after Nash tries to justify what has happened, noting that many people in wrestling have their demons, and that he's seen firsthand what alcohol problems can do to people. They both agree that Storm has the potential to become the World Champion, and that if he actually listened to those who have been trying to help him, he could become a champion.
We cut to a dark and creepy video package. It looks like its set in a forest as you can just about make out the outline of trees in the dark. An owl hoots and the sound of heavy metal objects clattering can be heard. The cameraman starts to run as the noise from the metal gets louder. The camera is shaking as the cameraman runs, and although you don't see him, you can hear him breathing heavily as he runs through the forest. Suddenly, he screams out, and you're able to make out a hand, which reaches and grabs the cameraman by the throat. You can't tell whose hand this is, but the cameraman is obviously being choked by it. Still holding onto his camera, the cameraman is dumped on the floor, with the camera pointing up to the night sky, where you can see a full moon.
We go back to ringside, where Jeremy Borash looks scared to death by the video package he has just seen. He struggles for words about whom or what that was. While Borash gets himself together, Nash takes over lead announce duty and says confirms that Sting will face either Robert Roode, Lance Hoyt or Eric Young for the TNA World Heavyweight Title at next month's PPV, and that his opponent will be determined on next week's show. A more composed Jeremy Borash informs us that next week's show will also see an announcement who Gail Kim will defend her TNA Knockouts title against at next month's PPV before confirming the card to date for the PPV, which will see LAX vs. XXX in a 'Six Sides Of Steel' match, Ron Killings vs. Christian Cage in a ladder match, plus just announced by TNA management, AJ Styles and Tomko defending their Tag Team Titles against The Steiner Brothers.
Borash is interrupted by Kurt Angle's music, with Angle making his way back to the ring, still in his wrestling gear. Angle grabs a mic, and says, "Y'know, after I won my 'match' tonight, I sat in the back and watched the rest of the show, hoping to see some competition out here. I saw none. Absolutely none. My first match tonight was a walk in the park, and I'm back out here to issue an open challenge to anybody in the back to a match, right here, right now."
An unknown wrestler makes his way down to the ring, with a generic rock track playing. He's about 160lbs if that. Kevin Nash asks Jeremy Borash if he knows who this guy is, almost laughing as he does so. Borash says he doesn't even know the name of Angle's opponent. The bell rings, and the match starts. The unidentified wrestler runs at Angle, but is met with a punch to the face. Angle throws his opponent off the ropes before hitting him with an overhead suplex. He then mockingly slaps his opponent around the head, which seems to rile him up. Angle goes to hit a second overhead suplex, but this time his opponent manages to block it, and turns it into an inside cradle to get a near fall. Angle looks shocked. He charges at his opponent but is met with a drop toe hold. The crowd are starting to get behind this guy now, hoping that he can cause a massive upset. The drop toe hold is followed up with an elbow drop attempt, but Angle sees it coming, and rolls out of the way. In doing so, his body collides with an out of place referee, who is knocked off balance momentarily, but for long enough for Kurt to give his an opponent a low blow before hitting him with the Olympic Slam and making the cover. Winner at 4:59 - Kurt Angle.
Angle celebrates like he's won Olympic gold again, skipping around the ring and celebrating to a chorus of boos. He grabs a microphone from ringside and starts to run down the entire X Division, saying that he's now put three guys on the shelf in the last week.
"There is nobody - and I mean nobody - in that locker room who is in the same league me. And there's certainly nobody from the X Division who can step up and give me some real competition around here. Its real. Its damn real!"
Angle drops the microphone to the floor, and starts to leave the ring. Before he can do so, the lights in the arena go out, and the building is in complete darkness. After a few seconds, the lights return. Angle is stood against the ropes, looking up towards the wrestlers’ entrance to try and work out what is happening. The camera zooms out to reveal Christopher Daniels is stood in the centre of the ring. Angle walks backwards, slowly, before turning round and finding himself face to face with Daniels. They stare at each other, without a word being said, as we fade to black.
