TAG TEAM SPOTLIGHT – A PWINSIDERXTRA FIRST

It is not my job to answer any of the questions that PWINSIDERXTRA.COM gets from you great wrestling fans in their wonderful Q and A column.  However, this one really seemed up my Alley and since Buck can only give the question an answer of a few lines I thought as writer of Tag Team Weekly and anything tag teams on this site I’d take a stab at writing a more lengthy response. The question posed was as follows:

“Of the current active tag teams in wrestling today, which pairing would make for the best match in your opinion?  My ideal matches would be the motor city machineguns vs. Kendrick and London or the Briscoe’s vs. Lax.”

Obviously this question leads to a lot of “dream” matchups between TNA and WWE and ROH but before we get to that I’d like to do some “Dream” match ups that exist inter-brand.  So let’s take the WWE first, then hit TNA and then smash them all together! 

WWE DREAM MATCHES

Dream Match #1 London and Kendrick vs. Moore and Yang

Moore and Yang are relatively new to the tag division but after seeing their work this past week in the Smackdown Tag Royal they really impressed me.  London and Kendrick are as fast if not faster than Yang and Moore and this would be an exciting contest.  I’d love to see this as a series of matches that went through three PPV’s.  The first would be a hardcore match where Moore would end up stealing the victory for his team. The second time the two would go toe to toe in a straight up wrestling match where London and Kendrick would defeat the other duo.  The third would be a ladder match pitting the four studs against one another.  Moore was in one of my favorite all time ladder matches in his WCW days and between him and London this could be a great match.  London would win at the end. 

Dream Match #2 WGTT vs. Cade and Murdoch

I think they’ve gone at it before but never in a lengthy feud.  To me these would be two contrasting styles.  I would actually change Cade and Murdoch face instead of heel for the length of the feud and have them win in the end.  I think Benjamin and Cade could especially work well together.  I’d love to see a Steel Cage match between these two teams

Dream Match #3 The Hardy Boyz or Matt and MVP vs. DX

I know, I know…I guess these guys aren’t official but sometimes this year they have been.  I think that the back and fourth verbal assaults between HHH and Matt Hardy would be ideal, or MVP and HHH would be great too.  Maybe what would be best is to have it be a three way and MVP could pick up Shelton Benjamin or Johnny Nitro as a partner.  I think the in ring action of any variation of this match would be off the charts

Dream Match #4 London and Kendrick vs. Hardy and MVP

This to me is a must see match and should be for one time only.  If I had my way prior to this match I’d put the RAW straps on London and Kendrick and keep the Smackdown titles on Hardy/MVP.  This feud would start at the Royal Rumble and go till Wrestlemania without the two teams ever getting in the ring together.  At the big event it would be a winner take all match to unite the tag straps, preferably in a TLC match.

The Brothers of Destruction vs. Abyss and Mesias

Okay, I know neither are really teams anymore.  But come on, this would be a true Monsters Ball. I would love to see what these four could come up with.  Put it in a barbed wire match, an inferno match, a casket match or a cell match…it would be all good.  I’d really love to see this before taker retires.

TNA DREAM MATCHES

Dream Match #1 Tomko/Styles vs. The Steiners

This needs to be a lengthy feud over the titles with the Steiner’s winning in the end and then retiring; I think Scott could have a great verbal battle with Christian Cage who could get involved on the side of Style’s team.  Rick and Tomko would match up really well and Styles and Scott would have a nice big man vs. little man thing happening.

Dream Match #2 VKM vs. The Outsiders (Hall and Nash)

I think this could be a really fun match if done right.  I even might add Team 3D into the mix on this one.

TNA vs. WWE vs. ROH DREAM MATCHES

Dream Match #1 LAX vs. London and Kendrick

This one would be off the charts, high-flyin action.  In the end I think you’d give the nod to LAX as I think they would want to prove themselves more.  Neither team to me has a fantastic talker, something that is missing amongst a lot of the current tag teams, but in the ring these two teams would be on fire.

Dream Match #2 DX vs. VKM

To me it would be a must-see match.  VKM would come in as their TNA characters, not Road Dogg and Billy Gunn.  The angle would be over the old DX issues somehow.  It would be great to get X-Pac and Chyna involved somehow.

Dream Match #3 Hardy Boyz vs. XXX

Think a 20 foot ladder in the middle of the ring with tag straps or money in the bank hanging from the rafters.  Matt goes up to get the belt when Daniels fly’s from another ladder and nails him to the floor.  Jeff jumps from the corner onto the ladder as the other XXX members try to stop him.  He Swanton’s off the ladder nailing them both as they come down.  Meanwhile…MVP shows up and grabs the belts, handing them to Matt in friendship…and that would just be the ending!

Dream Match #5 The Briscoe’s vs. Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly

This would be just a great rough and tumble in your face match.  I think it would be great in a hell in the cell type situation.  Rhodes would really earn his stripes in this one.

Dream Match #6 DX vs. The Outsiders

The Wolfpack vs. the Showstoppers and the reunification of the click.  I would love to see this in any shape possible and I just wonder if someday we won’t when all are ready to retire.

In conclusion

It is really fun to dream about this stuff and someday we may see some of these matches because you never know who will end up where down the road.  From all the above matches one in particular really steps out to me and that is XXX vs. The Hardy Boyz.  I just think those 4 or 5 men would really step it up and make it a fantastic match.
