PPV BY THE NUMBERS – TNA FINAL RESOLUTION 2008

By Joel C Croyle on 1/5/2008 1:30 PM

Introduction –

Hello everyone, I want to waste no time.  Here is the card and what I think about Sunday’s offering from TNA…

TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Kurt Angle vs. Christian Cage

This is a match we’ve seen in various different ways before.  I really think TNA needs to put something on top of the card that is new and different.  They need to get people in the main event mix we haven’t seen.  That said, these two are the consummate professionals. They are two of the best in the world today, make no mistake about it.  I am sure AJ Styles and possibly Tomko will make an appearance and mess up the match.  I’m sure Angle will retain but it will be a solid wrestling bout.

ULTIMATE X MATCH FOR POSSESSION OF THE X CHAMPIONSHIP
The Motor City Machineguns and "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal vs. Team 3D and Johnny Devine

This will be the bout of the night on the men’s side of things.  Ultimate X always lives up to its expectation.  There has been a lot discussed about how Team 3D isn’t the style of team that would do well in this match but truth is 3D helped get TLC matches of the ground and this isn’t much different.  Don’t be surprised if Ray takes a huge falling bump and pulls it off successfully.  Look for Lethal and Devine to be the stars of this match.

4.5 out of 5 Scorpion Death Locks

TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
AJ Styles and Tomko vs.
Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash

On paper, this match doesn’t look like much but I hope they prove me wrong.  As singles competitors all these men have blown me away before.  I think this match might be about making Tomko a star and he has the supporting cast to do it.  I think Styles and Tomko will retain

TNA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong

This WILL BE the match of the night, hands down.  These are the two finest women in wrestling today and it is going to be off the hook.  Look for every hold, offense, defense, submission, and weapon attacks to be used in this one. I think it is time for the Kong to get and hold the championship.

5 out of 5 Scorpion Death Locks

MIXED TAG TEAM MATCH
Booker T and Sharmell vs. Robert Roode and Ms. Brooks

I would rather have seen Booker T been inserted in the championship match but he and Roode will put on a good bout.  Brooks has been off her game lately and her storyline has sucked, she and Sharmell may mix it up well but somehow I think this may actually turn into a 3 on 1 handicap match with Brooks siding with the King and Queen of wrestling.

3.5 out of 5 Scorpion Death Locks

Abyss vs. Judas Mesias

I don’t care for this angle as I haven’t even mentioned it in my weekly column.  It is forgettable as will this match be.  Mesias will win.

2 out of 5 Scorpion Death Locks (And I am being really nice here)

Kaz vs. Black Reign

I hate Dustin Rhodes’ gimmick, however his in ring work is great and he is going to be in the ring with whom I think will be the next big superstar of wrestling.  This could be a surprise great match to a lot of people.  Kaz wins, hands down.

3.75 out of 5 Scorpion Death Locks

The Latin American Xchange vs. Lance Hoyt and Jimmy Rave w/ Christy Hemme

I am glad LAX and Hoyt and Rave are on the card but I have no idea how this match will go.  It is another one with a lot of young great talent.  We’ll see…I give the edge to LAX

In Closing

This is the first PPV by TNA I have really wanted to see in a long time.  It looks really good on paper and I think it will deliver…If you have the extra 30 bucks I’d say nab this one.  If you don’t and are choosing between this and The Royal Rumble…I’d say get the Rumble and watch the DVD of Final Resolution.
