PPV BY THE NUMBERS - ROYAL RUMBLE 2008

Introduction:
We have finally made it through 2007 and we have come to what is usually my favorite wrestling evening of the year, The Royal Rumble. In past years my favorite show was always The King of the Ring, but for some reason the WWE decided to get rid of it…whatever. So, Right from the get go for this PPV by the numbers only, I must say I have a bit of a bias since it is my favorite PPV.
The Matches:
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Edge vs. Rey Mysterio
This has the chance of stealing the night because both of these guys are absolutely on their game. Edge is and has been the best heel in the business for well over a year and he only gets better. His matches and promos are must se TV. I think Mysterio took a really long time to get his in-ring rust off but now he is starting to really work it. It will be a fast paced match with a lot of high spots and quick pins I would think. Look for Edge to cheat to hold on to the title.
4 out of 5 Tadpole Splashes
WWE Championship Match
Randy Orton vs. Jeff Hardy
I think this match is the reason people will order the PPV but it really isn’t the match itself creating the buys. I think it is no secret most fans really are not in love with Randy Orton and it isn’t because he is a great heel…in fact it is because he is a horrible heel. His persona just keeps going down hill. He did do well on the last two Raw shows to get this match over but it was two little to late. People really want to see Jeff win the title. I think there are also a lot of people hoping (and seriously, this is deranged) that Matt Hardy gets entered into the Rumble, win it, and choose to face his brother at ‘Mania. I am really not sure who will win to be honest but my gut says Randy retains. It will also be the worst match on the card because Jeff will have his hands tied.

United States Champion MVP vs. Ric Flair
This is another one that has the chance to steal the show. MVP is the second best heel in the business and Flair is well known to be the dirtiest player in the game. Look for that aspect of their persona to be brought out. I think we will see a lot of behind the ref’s back type maneuvers and in the end Ric will prove he can cheat better than anybody.
4 out of 5 Tadpole Splashes
Chris Jericho vs. JBL
If there is a yawner on the show this is it. JBL and Jericho have not done enough to get this feud going. JBL really better be at his best here or this will go to the world of suckage quickly. I think Jericho will pull the win at the end.
2 out of 5 Tadpole Splashes but could be a 4 out of 5
30-Man Royal Rumble
It is one of the greatest matches in wrestling. It will have one guy who goes 60+ minutes. It will have a monster near the end. The number 27 spot will be brought up by the announcers frequently. And so on…here who will win; HHH. However, if Matt Hardy does get added to the thing, then be sure he’ll win it.
5 out of 5 Tadpole Splashes
In Closing:
To me it is the best PPV of the year. Buy it.
